Allyson’s Share Time: New Goings-On

The month of May is giving me a heart attack.  The amount of awesome music that is coming out/came out is…I’m freaking out because I can’t listen to it all at once.

Tommy & The High Pilots

Without a doubt, I’m most excited about the Tommy & The High Pilots album dropping tomorrow.  You can stream it here.  I’ll be posting an album review later this week.  I’m not going to tell you what to think.  I’m just asking you to give it a chance and tell me what you think.

Vampire Weekend

Now, the album that has most surprised me is Vampire Weekend’s Modern Vampire of the City.  I don’t know that I have ever immediately wanted an album based on one song before, but Step did it for me.  Then I listened to the rest of the album and now I honestly don’t know what song is my favorite.  Vampire Weekend is staying in my head and is temporarily the only album on repeat.

Daft Punk

And, of course, Daft Punk’s new album hit us 10 days ago on May 17th.  I haven’t listened to enough to form a definitive opinion, but I will say that the song Get Lucky is the perfect song to crank up and play with the windows rolled down.  All the other kids will wonder why they can’t be as cool as you.  Trust me.  I know.

Cloud Cult

The other news I wanted to share is that I’m finally getting the chance to see Cloud Cult live.  I’ll be driving over 500 miles (one way) to Austin, MN in August to see them.  It’s a trip that I’m anxious to make, particularly after Cloud Cult’s new album Love.  I can’t remember the last time I was this excited for a concert (except before every other concert…there’s nothing like seeing a band live).

This year has already been a wonderful year for music, and it’s not even half over.  Los Campesinos! will be recording their new album next month, Arcade Fire has an album coming out later this year, as do Portugal. The Man, Man Man and I’m sure I’m forgetting some other ones.  Like I said, all of this new music has me frazzled in the sweetest way possible.

But I’ve going on and on about me.  I want to hear about you.  This is share time.  Not me time.  Let me know what concerts you’re going to, the albums you’re listening to and any other suggestions for music you’ve got.  A little is great, a lot is better.

Show me whatcha got.
